Day 5 - To Prince Edward Island

Driven today :  225 km
Total dricen: 1992 km

We got up early to go to the centre of Moncton to the Petitcodiac river to watch the tidal bore.  This is a wave that reverses the flow of the river and we got to the wave coming up with a surfer riding the wave.  I later read that a champion surfer rode the bore for 29 km from the mouth of the river to Moncton.  I do not know hoe far our surfer had come up the river but he fell jut before he got to us,

In the picture above you can see the surfer right in the middle of the river

This is the bore ass it passed right in front of us.  We were told that after the wave goes by, the river level continues going up for quite a while

Then we got on the road towards Prince Edward Island and we ended in a road with very nice views of the Northumberland strait which is between New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island

Eventually we got to a point with a good view of the Confederation Bridge that connects PEI to the mainland

We crossed the bridge

We went directly to downtown  Charlottetown and had a walk by the harbour.

The day continued to be very cloudy but we did not get any rain

We stopped for a visit to Beaconsfield Historic House.  The house was built by a wealthy shipbuilder in the late XIX century and had been restored to its original luxury

It was a very interesting visit and after that we continued our walk by the seashore

Then we returned thru town to the car.  We stopped for lunch and checked in our hotel

At the hotel we found that our room was going to be on the second floor but there is no elevator.  Well that was not acceptable.  While I can cope with stairs occasionally I felt it would be to much to carry luggage up and down so I suggested that we could look for another hotel.  The  manager pretty quickly offered to upgrade us to a suite in the first floor for the same price.  Great!

After that we went to visit our relatives.  This are the wife's cousins that we had not seen in a long time.  Aunt Marian had invited the whole crowd and that made dinner for us.  It was a delightful afternoon

And then back to the hotel.  The plan for tomorrow is to explore the North shore of PEI
