Driven today: 189 km
Total Driven: 3311 km
We started the day friving from our hotel in Deer Lake to Gros More National Park. It is unfortunate but now I have to cope not only with my bad knee but I also have a sore neck, very sore indeed.
We found another warning for moose on the road and although we have not seen a moose yet we saw another sign saying that there have been already 3 moose crashes on this road this summer.
As we drove down we could see Gros More, the mountain from which the park takes the name. It is pretty barren on top. It is a 16 kn tril with a good climb. Too bad I cannot do it yet. I can walk on flat and go up hills but I have real problems coming down. So we decided to stay on easy trails today.
We started a Berry Pond. The rail goes around the pond for a couple of kilometres. We saw several birds that we could not identify and could not take picture of. The boreal forest can be very thick in some places. Very different from what we ahve in Ontario.
There is Brenda admiring the pond tat the head of the trail
Another unidentified bird
From there we went to Berry Hill. another short trail that is nearby
In this one there is a climb to several lookouts on the hill.
Whne we were almost back to the car we saw these two woodpeckers' Again, I don't know what kind they are
From there wee went to try the coastal trail, Again very different and the vegetation is sub-arctic.
I never seen this kind of flowers before
Another unidentified bird
I have to admit that i had to stop walking half way because the pain in the neck became very intense but it was a beautiful walk in a very different environment.
From there we drove over to Norris Point just to see the town which is in a peninsula.
We stopped at a lookout to find warnings of a bear nearby.
And finished the day with Sunday Mass at the Immaculate Conception parish where the priest gave us a blessing for our 45th anniversary that is tomorrow.
